Summary
The Residential Care Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities for residential care programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Typical Functions
Supervises as small to medium staff by establishing work schedules, assigning specific duties, providing clear, explicit, and detailed instructions, and monitoring and reviewing the work on a regular basis to ensure adherence to instructions, deadlines, proper procedures or protocols, and the delivery of services to clients. Develops procedures for residential program operation and implements procedures through information dissemination, in-service training, and staff meetings. Monitors the operation of residential care program(s) by reviewing daily log entries, daily census reports, activity reports, shift summaries, and periodic observation of cottage activities, to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, clients receive training, individualized program plans are met, schedules are followed, and documentation meets federal regulations; Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of program(s) to ensure clients' needs are met. Counsels with and advises staff, parents, and clients to resolve personal or behavioral problems; explains work policies, procedures, and guidelines, and identifies the characteristics and impact of situations to formulate solutions to work-related problems. Resolves client and staff problems by hearing and reading complaints and investigation reports, making decisions, and taking corrective actions. Conducts staff meetings to review behavior problems and general concerns and intervenes in crisis situations. Conducts inspections of the campus and residential living areas for cleanliness, fire and security hazards, physical appearance, and operation, taking corrective actions, as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent a high school diploma; plus two years of work experience in residential patient care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
